Vocational Nurse Program

What is a Licensed Vocational Nurse?

A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an important member of a health care team and can be found in hospitals, long term care settings, home health, physician offices, clinics, ambulatory surgical centers and emergency medical centers providing basic bedside care for patients under the supervision of doctors and registered nurses. Student will learn to perform basic patient assessment, administer prescribed medicines, give injections, charting, do vital signs, dress wounds, give enemas, report changes in patient's conditions assemble and use equipments such as catheters, tracheostomy tubes, feeding tubes and oxygen administration; specimen collection, evaluate patient needs, help develop care plans and supervise certified nursing assistants in providing good quality of care.

What are the requirements for the LVN class?

  • Must have a valid California ID and Social Security Card
  • US High School diploma/GED
  • Must pass the Assessment Test (Entrance Exam) ($40)
  • Pre-requisite Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology 
  • Current Physical Examination, including PPD (T.B. Test within 6 month) and Immunizations.
  • Proof of Hepatitis B. Series or in process of completing.
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Malpractice insurance
  • Valid proof of current BLS (Basic Life Support) American Heart Association.

Certified Nurse Assistant Program

What is a Certified Nursing Assistant?

Among the vast array of health care careers lies the area of direct care giving. These professionals are often classified as Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides, Personal Care Assistants, Nurse's Aides, Patient Care Technicians and several other titles depending on the work environment and the region. Certified Nursing Assistants plays a vital role in providing the most basic needs for patients, young and old alike, whether it is in a nursing home, hospital, adult day health centers, assisted living facilities and even personal homes. Student will learn how to work closely with patients and provide assistance with daily living tasks.

What are the requirements for the CNA class?

  • Must Pass Physical Exam  & TB Skin Test performed by your physician or Nurse Practitioner
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and have English and math skills of a 5th grade level or higher.
  • Must Possess and Present a Valid California ID and Social Security Number.
  • Must Pass the Fingerprinting. (LIVE SCAN).
  • Must Pass Entrance Exam with at least 70% grade. (No Fee)

Hemodialysis Technician Program (CHT)

What is a Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT)?

A Certified Hemodialysis Technician performs venipuncture and arterial puncture for the purpose of providing dialysis treatment for a patient. A CHT student may also administer local anesthetics, heparin, and sodium chloride solutions according to the protocol established by the medical director of the hemodialysis clinic or hospital unit and under the immediate supervision of a licensed physician, surgeon, or licensed RN.  The CHT program requires 80 hours of theory and 200 hours of clinical supervised training.

Program Requirements:

  • Must Pass Physical Exam performed by your physician or Nurse Practitioner
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and possess basic English & Math skills
  • Must Possess and Present a Valid California ID & Social Security Number
  • Must Have Proof of High School Diploma or GED
  • Must Pass the Online Entrance Exam. ($10 per test)

Home Health Aide

The Home Health Aide Training Program is structured to provide knowledge and skills needed to function as a home health aide in a client's private home setting. Students who complete the course will also be awarded 24 units of continuing education credit hours which can be used when renewing their Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

What are the requirements for the H.H.A class?

  • Must have a C.P.R. Certificate
  • Must have a valid C.N.A. Certificate
  • Must pass a physical exam performed by your physician or nurse practitioner

Anatomy & Physiology Program and Medical Terminology

Students enrolled in the Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology Program and Medical Terminology will be provided with a basic knowledge of the functions of the human anatomy and body functions as well as medical terminologies. Students will be given continuing education or 3 college credits each upon completion of the course. These courses are prerequisites for the MCC Vocational Nursing Program. Students who wish to continue to the vocational Nursing Program can use the credits/units when applying admission to the Vocational Nursing Program. Students that pass the class with a grade of "C" or better will be awarded three (3) units each of academic work by the college.

What are the requirements for the A&P and Medical Terminology classes?

  • Must be a High School graduate or have a G.E.D

C.P.R. Classes (BLS) and First Aid

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support for Healthcare and First Aid Classes are offered for initial and renewal certification given by a Certified American Heart Association Instructor.

 

Classes are offered to Health Care Professional as a requirement for renewal of certificates.


Acute Care CNA Training Program

The Acute Care CNA Training Program prepares a Certified Nurse Assistant to function in a more medically complex and acute care nursing environment. Students who will complete the course will also be awarded 48 units of continuing education credit hours that can be used when renewing their Certified Nurse Assistant certificate.

What are the requirements for the Acute Care CNA:  

  • Must have C.P.R. Certificate
  • Must have valid C.N.A. Certificate
  • Must possess a physical examination performed by your physician or nurse practitioner
